5 Oct 2018 - 10:15

Sew the Winter to My Skin, produced by CFMS alumna Layla Swart, will open the Cape Town International Film Market and Festival (CTIFMF) on 9 October 2018. A cinematic ballad of South African outlaw John Kepe, the film is a brilliant example of visual storytelling. Sew the Winter to My Skin was selected in 2017 for the prestigious Cannes L’Atellier programme, and also awarded the Berlinale World Cinema Fund 2017.

It is the latest work by visionary South African director Jahmil X.T. Qubeka, whose career has spanned over fifteen years covering an entire spectrum of filmmaking disciplines. Most notably, his documentary and feature film work has enjoyed screenings at various prestigious international film festivals including the Toronto International Film Festival, Rotterdam Film Festival, London International Film Festival, Pusan International Film Festival (Korea), and Dubai Film Festival amongst others. He received wide acclaim for his previous feature Of Good Report.

Producer Layla Swart completed her undergraduate degree in the exclusive Film and Media Production stream at CFMS and went on to complete her postgraduate degree in Film Practice and Theory in CFMS in 2009. Layla is an advocate for authentic South African cinema and is contributing significantly to the expansion of the film industry in South Africa.
