FAM2000F Writing & Editing in the Media

NQF credits: 24 at HEQSF level 6.

Second -year, first -semester course, two lectures and one double-period or two single-period tutorials per week

FAM1001F, or at the discretion of the Head of Department.

Course outline

The course serves as an introduction to journalism and will expose students to theoretical and practical aspects of media production. By the end of this course students should be able to demonstrate good writing and editing skills; an understanding of print, broadcast and online media practices; an understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of these media practices.

Lecture times

Lectures: 1st period (08:00), Monday and Tuesday

Tutorials: Double period or 2 single-period weekly

DP requirements

Completion of all written assignments and regular attendance. Students who miss more than two seminars will lose their DPs.


Continuous assessment (essays, projects, tests, etc.) counts 100%
